Foxtrot 2025 Grenache | Centenarian Old Vines
McLaren Vale, South Australia

Our beloved Foxtrot label returns, reimagined as the 2025 Grenache – Centenarian Old Vines Reserve. A dedication to our winemaker, ‘The Silver Fox of McLaren Vale.’

The Wine
The handpicked McLaren Vale Grenache, from vines over a century old, was soft pressed and spent 11 months in American oak.  The very dry season, combined with one of the earliest harvests on record, produced a vintage of intense colour, full-bodied concentration of flavour, and fine, integrated tannins. Crafted to age gracefully through to 2040, this wine embodies elegance, depth, and structure.

Awards

Halliday Rating: 92 Points

As the label states, this is from vines 100 years, or more, of age. This saw 11 months in oak. There’s a fruit brightness from this warm year and also pleasing savoury reserve, likely from those venerable vines. Dried cherry, redcurrant, rosehip, fennel seed, caraway and white pepper. The palate is of medium concentration, with oak adding some dry tannin, though staying mostly out of the picture. It’s a nicely composed grenache with old-vine charm.

Food Pairings
Perfectly paired with grilled meats, roasted pork, Mediterranean-style vegetables, tapas, or a rich tomato-based pasta.

Vineyard and Winemaking
Sourced from a single vineyard of centenarian vines in McLaren Vale, this Grenache was handpicked and gently pressed before maturing for 11 months in American oak. Traditional methods and minimal intervention have allowed the purity of fruit and terroir to shine, resulting in a wine of complexity and longevity.

A Wine With Soul

To get things started, the lovely perfumed nose with bright red fruits lead the way with cherry and redcurrant giving it a fresh start with a slight savoury note and a hint of white pepper. The palate sits perfectly in that medium‑bodied zone, offering both brightness and some old‑vine depth at the same time. Oak plays a subtle supporting role, adding a touch of dry tannins without intruding on the lovely fruit on display. This may sound a bit odd (but that’s what I do sometimes) but there’s almost like a ‘feng shui’ with the fruit and spice working in harmony. The fruit concentration never tips into heaviness with this well‑balanced, thoughtfully made Grenache that shows just what centenarian vines have to offer in such a wine.
